The Manchester Essex Debate team competes nationally, regionally, and locally in Public Forum debate, Lincoln-Douglas debate, Policy debate, and individual speech events.
Thirty-four years ago, Manchester High School began with a small debate team and took the first steps toward a major commitment to achieve excellence at the national level. This effort on the part of the students, the coaches, the parents, and the community resulted in two national championships, a national round-robin win in Lincoln-Douglas, and international championship, and numerous major tournament wins.
In addition, literally dozens of Manchester debaters have participated in the TOC, NCFL Grand Nationals, or the NFL Speech Tournament. We have also made a commitment to international debate in London in 1992 and Athens in 2000, and we hope to resume international debate as soon as events in the world allow us to travel safely. We are also working with the United Nations Foundation on its "THE PEOPLE SPEAK" series, which we will help sponsor in Boston.
