Information for Seniors Applying to College
There is a range of possibilities open to students to supplement the rising cost of higher education including scholarships, loans, grants and work-study programs.
The listing of scholarships cited on the school website is reflective only of those opportunities that the Guidance Department has been made aware of. Students are strongly encouraged to seek out additional scholarship opportunities on their own. There are a number of internet search engines which make locating these sources much more manageable than in the past. The Guidance Department provides a list of these search engines on this website.
Organizations, families and individuals within The Manchester Essex Regional School District offer scholarships to students. To be considered for any of these district scholarships, students must complete the MERHS District Scholarship Application which can be accessed on the school website in February 2010. Students must submit 20 copies of the application to the Guidance Department. Copies of each application are then sent to the scholarship committees for consideration. Decisions on the scholarship recipients are made by the individual committees and are based on varying factors such as financial need, academic achievement as well as on the quality of the application itself. In addition, scholarship committees often communicate to coordinate awards in order to support as many eligible students as
possible. Some committees award money to the student directly while others send money directly to the institution to which the student is matriculating. These scholarship decisions are announced at the graduation exercises in June.

TCCI Family Connection from Naviance is a website that MERHS families may use to help with career and college plans. Family Connection tracks college and career plans of MERHS graduates, so it provides up-to-date and historical information specific to our school. MERHS is in the process of incorporating Family Connections into our current guidance program and will be updating and expanding services.
At the current time TCCI Family Connection will allow you and your child to research colleges and compare GPA, SAT scores, and other statistics to actual historical data from our school for students who have applied and been admitted in the past.
