Course Expectations
Textbook:
Learning Computer Literacy with Microsoft Office XP
Course Description: This is a comprehensive introduction to the Microsoft Office XP suite of productivity software. Students will be learning Office XP in real-world scenarios, editing and creating documents in MS Word, Excel,Power Point and Access 2002.
Textbooks are distributed during each class session and students are expected to take proper care as to minimize tears, water damage or other avoidable damage.
Materials for Class: Students are expected to bring a three-ring loose-leaf binder to organize and store class handouts, notes and assignments. Students may also bring
in a flash drive containing homework assignments. Students must bring their textbook to class for in-class work.
In-class assignments and tests will be assigned as an extension and reinforcement of the material covered in class. It is expected that students will be prepared to share in class discussions on course material through completing their assignments on time and bringing it to class. Assignments will be handed in at the end of each class and will be returned the next class for the student to place in his or her binder for future reference.
In-class assignments count for 50% of your total class grade and tests the other 50%. An in-class assignment and test that is handed in late without an excused absence will receive a one-point deduction for every day it is late. If you are handing in an assignment that is late, due to an illness or an excused absence, you are to write "Absent" on the top of the first page of your assignment. It is expected that the student will find out what she or he missed when returning to class and, if necessary, to meet with the teacher to set a mutually agreed upon schedule of completion of assignments. Assignments and quizzes not handed in or copied from another student will receive a grade of zero.
Class Participation: Students are expected to contribute in class discussions in a collegial manner that enhances the understanding of material, ideas and opinions that are expressed by fellow classmates and the teacher. Classroom participation is an integral component for
students to successfully share, express and integrate new material in a meaningful way. Class participation also includes working on an assignment from the aforementioned texts and refraining from surfing the web. Students who have to be reminded three times to refrain from this activity will have their parents notified of such behavior. If such behavior continues after contacting the student's parents, a detention will be given to that student.
Attendance & Tardiness: Please refer to your Handbook for Students and Parents to familiarize yourself with the school's attendance policy. There will be a late book in which the tardy student must sign-in. At total of three tar dies will result in one after school detention.
Classroom Behavior: It is expected that every student will treat his or her fellow students, teacher and substitute teacher, when absent from class, with respect and dignity in a collegial and supportive learning environment.
